Welcome to My Myo Spa

THE ROLE OF THE TONGUE

The TONGUE  is a vital

multi-functional muscle that is essential for taste, swallowing, chewing and clear speech.  It aids in digestion by moving food around and also acts as a self cleaning mechanism.   It serves as a key indicator of overall health like nutrition, hydration and systemic infections.   Resting tongue posture is slightly suctioned to the palate or the roof of the mouth with teeth slightly apart. Tongue posture does far more than speech. it influences breathing, jaw alignment, TMJ function, sleep quality and long term facial development.  In the wrong resting position, the tongue can contribute to  mouth breathing, jaw/head/neck/shoulder/back tension.  facial growth and development and much more.  When the tissue that connects tongue (frenulum/fascia/tongue tie) to the floor of the mouth is restricted, it can lead to oral dysfunctions with  compensatory behaviors.

MYOFUNCTIONAL THERAPY  is therapy that targets the mouth, face, and neck regions. Our uniquely designed  therapuetic sessions focus on techniques that will improve speech, swallowing and chewing, tongue thrust, strengthen facial muscles, enhance oral and overallposture , and most importantly, increase nasal breathing which is an important part of living a healthy lifestyle.

NASAL BREATHING

To benefit from NASAL BREATHING, you must utilize your diaphram.  Diaphramatic breathing is what experts mean by  "healthy deep breathing". Breathing through your nose activates the

parasympathetic nervous system. These network of nerves, once activated will cause relaxation and releases you out of fight-or-flight mode. Mouth breathing. on the other hand, activates the sympathetic nervous system. The 5 second rule is important to remmber once you are here.   It will reframe anxiety as excitement by repeating to yourself how excited you feel about something.  Your brain then reinterprets the physiological symptoms of stress as being dangerous, to  being a good thing, allowing you to escape the cycle of anxiouness and hyperventilation.

NASAL BREATHING is also essential for good respiratory hygiene. Air inhaled through your nose is healthier.  The complex system of bones, passageways and layers of mucous in the nose, filters harmful germs from the air, warms it up,  adds moisture and thern pass it to our lungs.

Experts agree that clean, warm, and moist air is  even healthier.

Nasally derived NITRIC OXIDE is crucial as it modulates our pulmonary and cardiac functions.
